Remembering a Champion
Oct. 17, 2011 - Many of you already know, Our Bayfront Champion, Dan Wheldon was tragically killed yesterday afternoon during the Indy Car Race in Las Vegas. Dan was a great champion – both in Sport and for his community. Shortly after the birth of their first son, Sebastian, Dr. Carlos Reyes introduced the Wheldon family to the Bayfront Health Foundation. Dan and his wife Susie enthusiastically gave back, using his influence and reach to build awareness and philanthropy for our program. As Bayfront Champions, “Team Wheldon” was featured in a marketing campaign for the Bayfront Baby Place. Dan was always sharing his story about the difference the hospital made in his life and supporting efforts to see that same difference happen for other expecting families. He will be missed, but his legacy of philanthropy will help ensure he is never forgotten. The Wheldon Family delivered both of their boys, Sebastian and Oliver, at the Bayfront Baby Place and were excited to name a Baby Suite, in recognition of their family’s appreciation for the Baby Place and Dr. Reyes. Dan will be remembered warmly by his Bayfront friends and his family will remain in our hearts.

The Bayfront Health Foundation provides philanthropic support to Bayfront Health System through charitable contributions and the generosity of the community.
Contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations and government sources are invested in the facilities, outreach programs and new medical technology to provide the "margin of excellence" for Bayfront Medical Center.
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation and a subsidiary of Bayfront Health System. It has a team of fundraising professionals and is governed by a Board of Trustees that oversees the efforts of the Foundation, establishing yearly funding priorities and long-term strategic goals for growth.
