Student Rotations

As a teaching facility, Bayfront is committed to the education of healthcare professionals, including medical students. The hospital is a primary site for fourth-year medical students from the University of South Florida who must complete an acting internship (AI).

In addition, fourth-year medical students from around the country may apply for a valuable hands-on patient care experience through the residency program.

There are two opportunities for fourth-year medical students:

Acting Internship in Family Medicine: students participate as an active team member on the Medicine Service.
Advanced Family Medicine Rotation: students see patients in the Family Health Center and on the Inpatient Medicine Service.

Medical students are assigned to a faculty member of the Bayfront Family Practice Residency program and work closely with family practice resident physicians. They participate in procedures; attend morning “sit down” rounds, daily noon conferences, and weekly grand rounds.
